The fallow deer (Dama dama) originates from Asia Minor but has been present in Europe since ancient Roman times. Later introduced by nobility in the Middle Ages, it has become a valued and widespread game species.
It is a social and elegant animal, easily recognized by its summer coat with white spots and broad palmate antlers. October is the peak of the rut – stags claim rutting grounds and attract females through deep roaring. Fallow deer are cautious, intelligent, and require a patient and respectful approach.
