SCI Safari Club International

Miscellaneous

SCI (Safari Club International) is an American hunting organization that has developed its own trophy scoring system. SCI scoring is the most widely used evaluation method among hunters worldwide, including in Africa, North America, Asia, and Europe.

The system is based on accurate measurement of the trophy’s dimensions, without any aesthetic or subjective evaluation. SCI emphasizes volume, size, and dimensions rather than symmetry or "impression" as in CIC. Each game species has specific measurement rules – for example, deer are scored based on tine length, antler spread, beam circumference, etc.

Key features of SCI scoring:

  • Imperial units are used (inches),

  • Scoring is purely quantitative – no aesthetic judgment,

  • No deductions for asymmetry (unlike Boone & Crockett),

  • The system includes more than 130 game species from around the world,

  • Trophies are recorded in the SCI Record Book – an international register.

SCI recognizes all legal methods of hunting (firearms, bow, crossbow) and also acknowledges so-called Grand Slams – special awards for harvesting multiple species within a single category (e.g., African antelopes, mountain sheep, etc.).

Thanks to its precision and global scope, SCI scoring is especially popular among professional hunters, safari guides, and trophy collectors. Every recorded trophy must be officially measured by a certified SCI scorer according to exact methodology.
