The combined hunting trip in Spain combines the pursuit of Beceite ibex and trophy-quality roe deer with the opportunity for excursions in the surrounding area and experiencing authentic Spanish culture. In eastern Spain, in the Castellón region, the hunt has its distinctive character shaped primarily by the landscape and climate. The alternation of open fields, scrubland, and rocky slopes creates a diverse environment in which game is naturally dispersed. Mornings and late afternoons have a different atmosphere compared to what we are used to – the light, scents, and sounds of the landscape are typically Mediterranean. These conditions make every outing into the hunting grounds an experience that is not only about the hunt itself, but also about observing and absorbing the surrounding nature.

Hunting information
The hunt itself is conducted as an all-day stalking approach with a team of professional hunting guides who have an in-depth knowledge of the terrain, game behaviour, population density, and distribution, which is essential for a successful hunt. Small terraced fields alternate with scrubland, oak groves, and pine forests, allowing for close, undetected approach to game at the required shooting distance.
Beceite ibex are characterised by large, ringed horns that spread outward like aeroplane wings, a feature that distinguishes this subspecies from other ibex subspecies in Spain. We will be hunting in a private hunting estate located in the provinces of Castellón and Teruel, bordering the Tortosa-Beceite National Game Reserve. These are among the finest and original hunting grounds for Beceite ibex, managed for many years in a way that today allows for a 100% success rate in hunting. The areas in which we will hunt are considered the cradle of Spanish ibex in the Castellón region, where as far back as 28,000 years ago, local ancestors practiced hunting as a way of life, as evidenced by cave paintings in the area.
The most suitable period for roe deer hunting in the Castellón region is April and later July during the peak rut. The hunt itself is carried out in a similar manner to our local practice. We start early in the morning with stalking, actively searching for roe deer in surrounding fields, woodland edges, and rocky terraces. During midday, due to high temperatures, game is resting and inactive, so we resume hunting in the afternoon. The hunting area covers an impressive 100,000 hectares, which requires frequent vehicle transfers in order to cover as much ground as possible. Throughout the stay, we are accompanied by a team of professional hunting guides who have excellent knowledge of the terrain and the local game’s behaviour and ecology.
Due to the vastness of the hunting grounds, we alternate between lowlands, rolling hills, and plateau areas, allowing us to discover the diversity and beauty of the local flora. Small terraced plots are interspersed with scrubland, oak woods, and pine forests, enabling us to approach game undetected and reach the desired shooting distance.
Programme of the trip
During the trip, we complete two hunting days, with the hunt starting already on the evening of arrival in Spain. Depending on hunting success, the programme may be supplemented with optional excursions:
- Wine tasting at the San Mateo winery (Bodegas Bellmunt Valls Besalduch)
- Visit to a traditional jamón producer
- Tour of a historic town or castle (Morella or Peñíscola)
- Visit to ancient olive groves
Weather
This depends on the selected month, however generally we can expect pleasant Mediterranean weather with warm daytime temperatures, so lighter clothing is recommended. In earlier months, cooler mornings should be expected. In the spirit of “there is no bad weather, only poorly dressed hunters,” we recommend checking the forecast before departure and adapting clothing accordingly, both hunting and casual wear.
Equipment and gear
Given the weather conditions and nature of the hunt, appropriate breathable clothing suitable for active walking is essential. Layering high-quality functional clothing is the basis, along with sturdy, high-ankle footwear. Game is hunted at various distances, so it is important to be prepared for different shooting scenarios. We recommend calibres with a flatter trajectory, particularly for longer-range shots. Professional guides are equipped with shooting sticks and high-magnification observation optics (spotting scopes or ultrazoom cameras), which they use to precisely assess game and also as support when confirming the client’s shot. A comfortable backpack is recommended for personal items such as water and spare clothing.
